The Source of Renewal
Ernest Holmes
It is the intellect and the subconscious self which need renewing. The Spirit neither sleeps nor slumbers. The Spirit is God. Any maladjustment in your life will be healed when you realize this perfect center within yourself. The vision you must catch and hold is the consciousness of a union so complete and perfect that you find no difference between your own being and God. The two are one.
The wick of your individual life runs deep into the oil of pure Being. There is but One Life and that Life is your life now. No matter what confusion appears at the surface of your life, there is always a place of calm at the center of your being. No matter how turbulent the waves may be on the ocean of your experience, beneath there is a changeless peace. Your being is submerged but not lost in the Infinite.
When you become confused, stop and listen to your inner calm. Turn from the confusion to that deeper something within. Say:
I am submerged in peace.
I am surrounded by peace.
I am immersed in peace.
There is nothing but peace.
Peace—deep, calm, undisturbed.

Feature Writer Diane Dreher
Diane Dreher frequently contributes articles to Science of Mind. In 2011, readers enjoyed “Creative Connections” in the May issue and “Dr. Judith Orloff on Developing Emotional Freedom” in the November issue. Many of you have wanted to know more about this talented writer. Dreher is professor of English, work/life balance consultant, and research associate at the Spirituality and Health Institute at Santa Clara University.
Here she shares some highlights from her personal spiritual journey.
Who Is Diane Dreher?
—Diane Dreher
I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and have traveled extensively throughout my life. As a child, I lived in the Philippine Islands and Germany, becoming fascinated with the convergence of Eastern and Western spiritualities.
I began a profound inner journey in my early twenties, did graduate work in England at the University of Birmingham in Stratford-upon-Avon, and earned my Ph.D. in Renaissance literature at UCLA. My journey led me to study holistic health and teach yoga at the East-West Center for the Healing Arts in Northern California; to become a Religious Science practitioner at the San Jose and Los Gatos Churches of Religious Sciences (now CSLs); and to study for the ministry with Dr. Marcia Pearce. I finally realized that my ministry is in my writing. My books include The Tao of Inner Peace, The Tao of Personal Leadership, The Tao of Womanhood, Inner Gardening, and my new book, Your Personal Renaissance. I find my greatest joy is helping others connect with their creative potential and discover their vocations, for I believe that our greatest natural resources are our hearts and minds, together with those of the people around us.
