The Old and the New
Ernest Holmes
The new thought, the new order, is designed to heal the great negation of life, the denial of unity. It is designed to demonstrate individually and collectively that there is good enough to go around. The new thought is a true spiritual democracy, since it never seeks to reduce individual life to one common level of manifestation. It never tries to fit everyone into one common mold. It merely affirms a unity at the base.
If all the world believed that its economic problems could be settled—and will speedily become settled by justice, truth, and order—then such would be the case. If all the world believed that war, national and international strife, is unnecessary, then there would be no motivating power back of them and they would fall by their own weight. Like plants cut off at the roots, there would be nothing for them to feed upon, and they would wither and die.
Taking all the hope and justification from the old, we should press on to this new order of thought, as those who advance to a certain goal, knowing there is certainty behind them, certainty with them, certainty confronting them.

Spiritual Hero Jean Houston
Jean Houston is celebrated as our Spiritual Hero in the January 2011 issue of Science of Mind magazine. Social artistry and visionary activist, philosopher, and the author of twenty-six books, Dr. Houston is considered one of the principle founders of the Human Potential Movement and one of the leading experts today in the field of myth and archetype. You can enjoy the full feature on Jean Houston at www.scienceofmind.com.
As an additional point of interest, Dr. Houston wrote the foreword to the 1938 edition of The Science of Mind. Tarcher/Penguin publisher and friend Joel Fotinos approached Houston to introduce the Science of Mind philosophy to a new generation. Houston had actually met Science of Mind founder Ernest Holmes when she was nine and remembers him as being “very jolly.”

Experience the Music of Karen Drucker
Gratitude before me, gratitude behind me. Gratitude to the left of me, gratitude to the right of me. Gratitude above me, gratitude below me. Gratitude within me, gratitude all around me. I’m so grateful. ~ I’m So Grateful by Karen Drucker, from the CD Songs of the Spirit 4
My religion is kindness. My church is nature. My God is a feeling that lives deep inside. My job is to be conscious. My path is forgiveness. My religion is kindness, and I practice it everyday. ~ My Religion is Kindness by Karen Drucker from the CD Beloved
Singer/songwriter/speaker/author Karen Drucker exercises the spiritual practice of kindness every day. Having experienced acts of kindness and the uplifting effects they bring, Drucker knows the value of something as simple as smiling at someone or buying a stranger a cup of coffee. Hand in hand with her random acts of kindness, Drucker also believes in, and practices, gratitude every day for all aspects of her life—the good as well as the not so good, recognizing that both are opportunities to grow and to change, if she so chooses.
Karen Drucker’s music reflects these simple yet profound life practices. In her thirteen CDs and in her book, the listener/reader can feel the gratitude, kindness, and love with which she sings. To learn more about Karen Drucker and to hear some of her music, click here. |
