The Ultimate Goal of Life
Ernest Holmes
We believe the ultimate goal of life to be a complete emancipation from all discord of every nature, and that this goal is to be attained by all.
The ultimate goal of life does not mean that we shall ever arrive at a spiritual destination where everything remains static and inactive. That which to our present understanding seems an ultimate good will, when attained, be but the starting point for a new and further evolution. We believe in an eternal upward spiral of existence. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions.”…All evolution proves the transition of the lesser into the greater.
The original sources of spiritual thought, from which the great religious conceptions of the ages have been drawn, have taught that evolution is an eternal manifestation of life on an ascending scale. As we ascend from a lower to a higher level, the limitations of the previous experience must drop away from us. Since the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Reality is already established in Spirit, our transition from one plane to another is a matter of consciousness, and since all persons are incarnations of the Divine Spirit, every soul will ultimately find complete emancipation, not through losing itself in God, but rather through finding God in itself….Every apparent ultimate is but the beginning of a new experience.

Barry Ebert—Music Inspired from the Soul
Our beloved columnist Rev. Barry Ebert is the Youth Director and Assistant Minister at Mile Hi Church in Lakewood, Colorado. Ebert has been a facilitator of the Love and Logic parenting workshops for twenty years, teaching at various schools, churches, and community centers in Colorado. He and his wife Stephanie are the parents of two grown sons who gave Barry plenty of opportunity to practice his parenting principles when they were teens.
Ebert is also a singer/songwriter with four CDs of original music. One of his greatest career accomplishments was playing one of his songs, “Growing with Spirit,” with the Colorado Children’s Chorale at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the summer of 2010.
Ebert’s interview with Gary Zukav titled “Soul Man” is featured in the April issue of Science of Mind. Zukav’s book The Seat of the Soul inspired Ebert to write the song “Our Souls Come Here to Grow.” Ebert explains that inspiration: “I wrote this song for Gary Zukav when we were doing some music before his speaking engagement at Mile Hi Church. I've always been intrigued with the concept that Spirit puts us on Earth to participate in a sort of cosmic theatre, and it’s our job to figure out what our role is and play it well. Rev. Cynthia James was kind enough to join me on this recording.”

Earth Day 2011: A Billion Acts of Green®
It is that time again. Earth Day, which occurs each year on April 22, has been hailed as the largest worldwide secular holiday. Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator, during a time of great political strife in the shadow of uncertainty about the future of our planet. In 2011, Nelson’s purpose of creating a better understanding of the effect we have on our planet and the need to take action to make positive environmental changes in our community is, perhaps, even more imperative.
In recognition of the power of millions of individual actions, Earth Day 2011 will be organized around A Billion Acts of Green®. This initiative calls for personal, organizational, and corporate pledges to live and act sustainably. It is the largest environmental service campaign in the world with over 45 million actions to date. This campaign to honor Earth Day inspires and rewards both simple individual acts and larger organizational initiatives that further the goal of measurably reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainability. A Billion Acts of Green® demonstrates the kind of environmental impact that can be made when millions of people, corporations, and organizations make commitments, both small and large, to better their environment.
Elements of the 2011 Earth Day campaign include:
- Athletes for the Earth: Bringing the voices of Olympic and professional athletes to the environmental movement
- The Canopy Project: Supporting global reforestation
- Green Schools: Greening America’s schools within a generation
- Women and Green Economy (WAGE)™: Engaging women leaders in the creation and development of a global green economy
- Creating Climate Wealth: Convening 200 of the world’s entrepreneurs to solve climate change and create a new green economy
- Arts for the Earth: Celebrating the work of environmental artists in all media and partnering with the American Association of Museums to bring sustainability to museums nationwide
