The Evolution of a Conscious Relationship
Couples in long-term relationships frequently offer advice on how to sustain a healthy relationship across the span of a lifetime. In the July 2022 Science of Mind magazine, Barbara Doern Drew and Dr. Walter Drew share their journey to creating a marriage based in consciousness and creativity.
“With no map to this uncharted territory,” they write, “we realized that here was another opportunity to draw even more deeply on the spiritual practices and everyday rituals that sustained and supported us individually and in our 33-year relationship. We faced challenges to which we wanted to bring our greatest consciousness and commitment.”
They explain that part of the larger context for their relationship is an acknowledgement of the existence of the one Divine Source. They affirm knowing this Source “expresses Itself uniquely in, as and through all creation, including us."
Shown here on their wedding day in 1989, the Drews today focus on setting their affairs in order as their latest life phase unfolds. They add: “Our goal is to become more available to the opportunities and creativity of this unique stage, treasuring each moment and making a meaningful contribution for as long as we are here.
“We savor both the knowns and the unknowns, the flowing times as well as the halting ones, knowing they are all part of the colorful tapestry that is our life together. We are grateful for it all — this wonder-filled experience of the conscious evolution of our loving, committed relationship.” |
