A Dream Fulfilled, A Vision Realized
On September 21, the United National General Assembly will mark the 40th anniversary of its International Day of Peace, the purpose of which is to strengthen the ideals of peace around the world. The date of September 21 was set as the annual commemoration in 2001, opening the door to discuss how to promote and maintain peace among all peoples.
Further, and most remarkably, this day marks an annual 24-hour period of global ceasefire and nonviolence for those in active combat zones.
As Trish Hall writes in the September issue of Science of Mind magazine, “The International Day of Peace reminds us of our commonalities. Regardless where we come from or what languages we speak, we are more alike than we are different. Honoring those commonalities makes peace possible.”
She adds, “We draw on the wisdom and experience of the peacemakers and peacekeepers to learn how we can individually and collectively be catalysts for peace – how we can manifest a world that works for everyone, everywhere.”
Hall believes peace is possible. "Each act,” she says, “regardless how small, starts a ripple. Imagine, for example, if we were all simply kind and respectful of one another, how different life would be. We can all contribute to the worldwide culture of peace through generosity of spirit, prayer, advocacy, education and ensuring access to clean water and health resources.” |
CSL Heart of Peace Initiative
Within Centers for Spiritual Living, the Collective Meditation for Peace Initiative, formalized as the Heart of Peace Initiative, sets out a three-fold commitment to peace:
- Create opportunities to gather in meditation.
- Support Centers for Spiritual Living around the world in forming collective meditation groups.
- Collaborate with other organizations to ensure opportunities to meditate on the emergence of world peace are easily accessible to all.
The Heart of Peace Initiative coordinates weekly online collective peace meditations and numerous events throughout the year. For the 40th anniversary commemoration, the Heart of Peace Initiative invites you to participate in these ways.
- Watch and participate virtually in the CSL Heart of Peace event on September 21, at 9 a.m. Mountain Time. CSL will livestream the event on the CSL Facebook page and on the CSL Heart of Peace Facebook page.
- Let us know how you and your community celebrate International Day of Peace. Send your event listing to Rev. Sharri Johnson, OneHeartRetreatCenter@Gmail.com, and be sure to include your name, center or community name, the type of event, Zoom link or other streaming details. Your event will appear on the online master calendar for that day.

A Prayer for Peace
By — Ernest Holmes
Pray for peace
and make our hearts fit to accept it when it arrives.
Let us make our intellect and our soul and our will and our feelings
be ready to receive and hug her even before she arrives.
Let us return in the stillness of our own soul
to that ineffable Presence that is Peace
And proclaim it even in the midst of confusion,
that Peace that is the Power in the heart of God.
