We Are the Actors
Imagine this: Planet Earth is a canvas. Here, where the mystery of life is created, we are each actors. Even before we were born, our stage was ready, awaiting our arrival.
Don Miguel Ruiz explains it this way: “We are what we are. When we learn to speak, we become aware of the acting, and we grow up surrounded by people who criticize everything we do. Then we have peer opinions — everyone who lives around us — and we judge everything. We especially judge ourselves.”
He adds that while we must adapt to these changes, we also must understand that we are not alone in the acting. “We have a whole company of actors,” he says. At home, at work, at play, we are all acting — and facing our critics.
“Once we understand this,” he adds, “it is easy to adapt to any change on the stage. We don’t have to lose our happiness or love or joy. We just keep going and going. Until the moment when we stop acting, when we leave our physical bodies.”
His solution? “Ultimately, it’s all love — the way we love and learning how to love. … With awareness, that love will little by little turn into unconditional love.”
