Realize Your Divine Nature

Realize your divine nature

Ernest Holmes wrote, “We must be lifted up, that is we must realize our Divine nature and relationship to the Truth of God. This relationship is one complete unity.”

In the July 2020 issue of Science of Mind: Guide for Spiritual Living magazine, writer Elliott Robertson wonders if this realization of our divine nature could be the key to living from the glory of who we are. “Could this be the essential first step on the journey of expressing our God-given magnificence with greater humility from one day to the next?” he asks.

Robertson posits that perhaps our greatest self-care and our greatest service to the world lies in meditating daily on the perfect life. As Holmes admonished us: “To daily meditate on the Perfect Life, and to daily embody the Great Ideal, is a royal road to freedom, to that ‘peace which passes understanding’ and is happiness to the soul.”

Robertson adds, “Devote yourself daily to meditating on the love God has for you. Remind yourself each day that God knows your name. When you awake say, ‘Thank you, Life, for this chance for me to consent to God’s sweet will for me to give way to who I am. I am grateful to receive your love this very moment.’”

He believes that saying this prayer wholeheartedly will enable you to “set your inner sails to take you to a place of happiness, to a place of contentment and a sense of well-being.”

“Take time each day to meditate on the love God has for you,” he adds. “Remind yourself daily that God knows your name.

“If a storm is raging, then the need to take a moment to establish your awareness in who you are in truth is even greater. When a storm is blowing through your life, when chaos takes center stage, you need to give way to the inward light so you might find your way into the peaceful eye of the storm.”

Practical Tips for Meditation

The art and practice of meditation mean different things to different meditators. Writer Marcia Hootman, in the July issue of Science of Mind magazine, says her advice to new meditators is to try out as many types of meditation as they want until they find the one most suited to their own needs. “When it comes to making decisions,” she writes, “you can always change your mind and choose again.”

Hootman says that for her, quiet music, a guided meditation or both in combination work best. She also offers some ideas for other approaches:

  • Mindfulness meditation: quiet, observing thoughts; focus on your breath
  • Movement: walking, qigong or dancing
  • Mantra: using a chant such as “om”; creating your own
  • Transcendental meditation: a silent mantra; sitting quietly for 20 minutes
  • All-day meditations: dedicated time or mindfulness throughout the day
  • Guided meditations: use an app, audiobook or video

Regardless which approach is right for you, Hootman suggests giving it a try. “If I can meditate,” she says, “so can you. Start with simple things today. Remind yourself, as Lao Tzu said, ‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’”

One with the Truth of God

By Ernest Holmes

We all wish to speak the Truth, but have we realized that every time we make a claim about ourselves that is different from the claim we would make about God, we are falling into the error of denying the Divine Presence in our experience? …

Today I say to myself: I am one with the Truth of God. I speak this Truth and proclaim it to be the reality of my experience in what I call “little” and in what I call “big.” In the simplest and the most complex things, I recognize the one Truth — changeless, permanent and eternally manifesting Itself.

Therefore, I know the truth about myself. I know the Truth about everything I do. I know the Truth about everyone I meet. I know the Truth about every situation in which I find myself.

This Truth is not only perfection, it is also power. It is not only presence, it is also action. Therefore, the Truth and the Power and the Presence and the Action of the Living Spirit flow through everything I do, say and think. I do know the Truth, and the Truth I know frees me and keeps me free.
