Consciousness Is the Key
In the June issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine, Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones offers five mindfulness practices that will assist you in moving toward freedom.
- Be present in the moment. “The first step in setting yourself free is taken the instant you present yourself in the moment.”
- Get out of denial. “With awareness comes power; once you take ownership of the situation, you empower yourself to change it and see through new eyes.”
- Challenge the problem. “Courageously examine the beliefs you embrace and see if they correspond with your problem; it’s a matter of cause and effect.”
- Be open for guidance. “Rather than wasting precious hours, days, weeks, months and years of your life pushing against the problem (which only gives it more power), make the divine surrender, not to the outer condition but to the inner solution.”
- Stay conscious. “Remembering that your mind is a container for the beliefs that form your consciousness is a lifetime practice. Knowing how to look at what lies before you in any moment determines what you shall see. The only way out truly is in.”

Celebrate June with Pride
The start of summer, the celebration of fathers, the summer solstice. June encompasses all this — and the worldwide celebration of LGBTQ Pride month. In June 2000, President Bill Clinton deemed the month of June “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month,” chosen in part as a remembrance of the 1969 riot at Stonewall Inn in Manhattan, thought to be the beginning of the gay liberation movement in the United States.
According to the National Women’s History Project, Pride month has three main premises: “that people should be proud of their sexual orientation and gender identity, that sexual diversity is a gift, and that sexual orientation and gender identity are inherent and cannot be intentionally altered.”

Sail Away With Us
This year, Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine celebrates 90 years of continuous publication. Throughout the year, the magazine is celebrating by looking into our history and redoubling our commitment to the message and teachings of Ernest Holmes.
Our celebration culminates next January with an adventure at sea. Our 90th Celebration Cruise sets sail on January 28 for a six-night winter getaway in the Caribbean. Our private on-board celebration will include thought leaders in Science of Mind and New Thought, entertainers, meditations, Science of Mind services and hosted group shore excursions.
Still wondering if you should cruise with us? Join our conference call on Tuesday, June 20, at 6 p.m. Mountain Time, to find out whether this cruise is for you. (And we think you’ll agree that it is!) The free conference call number is 515-739-1020. The access code is 703-415.
Still need a reason to say yes? Proceeds from the cruise will help us create an $80,000 endowment specifically to ensure the long-term success of the magazine. And your $250 deposit both secures the stateroom of your choice and is fully refundable should your plans change.

Consciously Use the Laws of Nature
— Ernest Holmes
You can think yourself into being unhappy and depressed, or you can think yourself into being glad. Did it ever occur to you that you can also think yourself into being well? Into being prosperous? That you can think yourself into success?
Well, you can if you believe in the Law of Life, and use it rightly. But you must learn to use it affirmatively. You must learn to identify yourself with your desires.
Just as gravitational force holds physical objects in place, so there is another kind of force that operates on your thinking and tends to bring into our experience those things which we hold in mind. This explains why faith is effective because faith is an affirmative attitude of mind which uses the creative power of thought constructively. It gives us a key to the teachings of Jesus about prayer.
We can use the laws of nature consciously and decide what we want them to do for us, but we are not these laws, they are greater than we are. …
We are surrounded by a law of mind which acts on our thoughts. This is the security of our faith and the answer to prayer.
