Freedom from the Stranglehold of Memory
“Forgiveness is the choice to change our minds about some of the ways in which we think.” – Margaret Stortz
Science of Mind shows us how to loosen our grip on cherished beliefs that don’t serve us and open our hands (and minds) to something that does. When was the last time you gave yourself permission to change your mind about something or someone who hurt you? Do you ever find yourself suffocating from what Stortz calls “the stranglehold of memory?”
Try this simple technique for letting go that requires only you and two chairs. In less than five minutes, you can clip the ties of memory and sit yourself down, literally, in a new place. With practice, this exercise can strengthen the power to choose perspective.
Learn how to maintain a vital forgiveness and love practice in Stortz’s article “Living in a State of Forgiveness” in the October 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine. Check out her monthly spiritual ideas and blogs at MargaretStortz.com. |

The Inspired Work of Robert Brown
Robert J. Brown may be one of the most intriguing and important figures you’ve never heard of.
“He was a friend of Nelson Mandela. He helped Martin Luther King, Jr.’s widow bring her husband’s body home. He was a businessman and held a senior position in the Nixon White House. All that was before he spent years sneaking books for poor children into South Africa during the height of apartheid.” – Excerpted from “Longitudes: Big Ideas Delivered by UPS”
Brown says Dr. Ernest Holmes’s book “It’s Up to You” changed his life more than any other. After a lifetime dedicated to service, he says, “If you want to do something with your life, it’s all up to you.”

The Two Great Commandments
By Ernest Holmes
The two great commandments are to love God and [one another]. On these hang all the law and the prophets. Love is a complete unity with life, and we cannot enter this state unless we are in unity with all that lives, for all life is One. To love God alone is not enough, for this would exclude [one another]. To love [one another] is not sufficient, for this would be too limited a concept of God.
When we realize that God and man are One and not two, we shall love both. We shall love man as an expression of God, and God as the Life Principle in all.
This is an excerpt from “The Science of Mind,” written by spiritual visionary Dr. Ernest Holmes. Read more in the October 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine. |
