The Art of Self-Love:
Helping Victims of Abuse
and Trauma Repaint Their Lives
—Holli Sharp
Self-love isn’t selfish. It’s the foundation for our lives. When we nurture ourselves first with loving thoughts, actions and healthy boundaries, we create an overflow to freely share with others.
This month, Rita Loyd celebrates 20 years as an artist making a difference in the world. Her own spiritual practice of drawing and painting has become an invitation to others through her vibrant and vulnerable depictions on canvas. The painting below, titled “Grateful Heart,” was created especially for readers of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine to show Loyd’s appreciation for their continued support.
Loyd has written a book and developed a deck of heart-centered affirmation cards. All this and her free therapeutic drawings can be found on her website: NurturingArt.com. You can enjoy the entire feature about Loyd’s art and inspired life’s work in our March issue. |

Try the Three-Step Miracle (Yes, It Works)
—Mitch Horowitz
As a writer and editor of spiritual literature, I am often asked about my “favorite” book. I have lots of favorites, from “The Jefferson Bible” to G.I. Gurdjieff’s allegorical epic, “Beelzebub’s Tales to His Grandson.” But there is one special book that I have given away more than a hundred copies of. It is a 28-page pamphlet, published anonymously in 1926 under the title “It Works.”
Why am I so enthusiastic about
“It Works”?
It distills a program of creative-mind metaphysics into three exquisitely simple steps.
But these steps work only if approached with your whole being. They are:
- Carefully devise a list of what you really want from life.
- Read it morning, noon and night. Think about it always.
- Tell no one what you are doing so you remain steady in your resolve.
Then, express gratitude when the results arrive.
That’s it? How can something so simple really work? Because this exercise pushes us to do something that we think we do all the time but rarely try: honestly come to terms with our truest desires.
What do you really want? Try “It Works.” It will surprise you. |

Open Your Mind, Unfold Your Heart
Let the Sounds of Gary Lynn Floyd Set the Tone
It’s evident that Gary Lynn Floyd allows the Divine to flow through his musical mastery when he’s writing and performing. The singer/songwriter from Conroe, Texas, discovered his innate gifts at the young age of 4, and he’s been impacting lives with his passion ever since.
We have a special, uplifting gift to you: A live version of Floyd singing “Unbound,” a song recorded for “Troubadour TX,” a CW network television series. This song appears on two of Floyd’s latest CDs, “Unbound” and “Then + Now.” It’s a reminder of the truth of our beings — there is nothing to fear because our good is at hand.

Perfect Action …
No Mistakes: A Daily Meditation
—Ernest Holmes
In mental work, we must realize that there is One Infinite Mind, which is constantly directing our destiny. Declare every day that, “No mistakes have been made; none are being made and none can be made.” Declare, “There is One Supreme Intelligence which governs, guides and guards, tells me what to do, when to act and how to act.” Having done this in perfect faith, act with perfect assurance. Declare further, “Everything necessary to the full and complete expression of the most boundless experience of joy is mine now.” Know this, see it, feel it and BE it. Do this every day for a few minutes.
This is an excerpt from “The Science of Mind,” written by spiritual visionary Dr. Ernest Holmes. Read more in the March 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine. |
