Call to Action: One Human Family
By Jen Picinic
The recent shootings and killings of innocent men, African-American and law enforcement alike, flooded the news and Facebook feeds. It was nearly impossible to resist being pulled into the sadness that we as a country have been exposed to. But amidst the recent tragedies, I came across a ray of hope.
In Los Angeles, rappers The Game and Snoop Dogg started a conversation with one another and asked what they can do to bring about change. The rappers then organized and led a march to L.A. Police headquarters to start a new dialogue and repair relations between law enforcement and minorities. The nonviolence summit was covered by NBC Los Angeles.
Our founder, Dr. Ernest Holmes, understood that it is only "through the power of love that we can let go of past history and begin again." What a beautifully transformative awareness. We can indeed create a world where we can all stand side by side in peace and thank God for that. The time is now, and this is OUR call to action. |

Following Your Navigation System
When you use your car’s navigation system, do you actually listen to what it tells you? Or do you enter your destination and then ignore the system’s guidance?
In her book “When Did You Die? Eight Steps to Stop Dying Every Day and Start Waking Up,” Temple Hayes encourages us to follow our life navigation system. Physical death is natural, but Hayes addresses all the unnatural ways that we die energetically throughout our lives. Paralyzed by fear, we stay in jobs and marriages that slowly kill us, and we keep silent when we feel called to speak out. We stop participating in our lives, and we ignore the navigation system that says we’re off track.
The answer is to start listening and moving forward again, even if you’re scared. “We can’t think away fear. We have to sit with it, be with it and go to a place of feeling in order to address it,” she says in her video “How to Overcome Your Fears.”

Champions Practice New Thought
“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” — Henry Ford
Positive thinking gives champions the edge, according to Dr. Jarrod Spencer, a performance psychologist. Citing a study conducted at a Florida tennis academy, factors like diet, exercise and coaching didn’t matter as much as the way players talked to themselves during the game.
In the 10 to 15 seconds after an opponent scored, winning athletes thought things like, “I love this game,” “There’s no place I’d rather be” and “I may not have gotten that shot, but I’ll get the next one.” Positive self-talk kept the players focused and slowed heart rate, ultimately resulting in victory.
Welcome to the midst of twin revolutions, says Harvard psychologist Dr. Shawn Achor, where the burgeoning field of positive psychology is growing as fast as the technological revolution. Achor’s studies show that winners think of stress as a challenge rather than a threat. Watch Dr. Achor’s video “Happiness As a Competitive Advantage.”

A Power That Works for Everyone
By Ernest Holmes
“If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
Jesus is speaking of the spirit of his teachings, and the whole spirit of his teachings is to the effect that man is an individualized center of God-Consciousness. The spirit of man is the Spirit of God, for God is One.
When we abide in the One, we cannot ask amiss, but must ask for that which is right and good. Consequently, our prayers to the One will be answered. But let us remember that prayer is answered according to law, and this law is one of liberty and never one of license. True liberty comes only through true harmony; true harmony only through true unity; and true unity can come only through the conscious realization that we are one with God or Good.
Jesus implies a power which can and will work for those who harmonize with, and believe in it. But we must first abide in the Spirit of Truth. And what is the Spirit of Truth other than that we live in conscious unity with good and do harm to no one?
This is an excerpt from “The Science of Mind,” written by spiritual visionary Dr. Ernest Holmes. Read more in the August 2016 issue of Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine. |
