Oneness
Ernest Holmes
There is One Spirit incarnated in everyone, an immortal Presence forever expanding everything, causing everything to grow. What a difference it would make in our human relations if we tried to sense the meaning of this Divine incarnation in all people and adjust our viewpoint to the truth that they are all bound together in the unity of God! While we may think otherwise, behind all this vast array of life there can be but one Cause, one Universal Mind, one Infinite Spirit flowing into, through, and becoming everything.
We are so used to seeing ourselves as separate from each other that we suspect the very feeling and emotion that causes us to embrace everything in love. But the one person who loves the most will live the most. We meet each other only in fragments, only partially, when we refuse to open the whole avenue of our consciousness to the realization that there is but one living Spirit in, over, and through all. If our human relations are to mean the most to us, we must sense that there is within everyone a Divine Presence manifesting Itself in infinite variations—the same impulse, the same love and life, but never quite alike in any two persons.

Healing in the Midst of Tragedy
News from our CSL in Aurora, Colorado
—Marilyn Manassee, RScP
The talk began with her title “Revealing Heaven in the Midst of Tragedy” as she added, “Shall we live in James Holmes’s created hell or will we choose heaven?”
And so it was on Sunday, July 22, 2012, in the aftermath of the theater massacre that claimed the life of one of New Dawn’s own, that the center was overflowing with people seeking a message of hope. They knew that, somehow, Rev. Karen Paschal, senior minister and spiritual leader, would lead them back to the awareness that “healing takes place when we dwell in the kingdom of Oneness.”
Since New Dawn came to Aurora, Colorado, led by Rev. Karen Paschal, its mission has been to make a difference in the lives of the members in our spiritual community, in the city of Aurora, and in the world. The center has been a beacon of light in Aurora offering many outreach programs, and Rev. Paschal has established a strong relationship with city officials. Two years ago, Rev. Paschal’s vision of a world of peace took form as she partnered with the Aurora Police Department and the Aurora School District to sponsor the Season for Nonviolence, which takes place once a year for sixty-four days between the anniversaries of the assassinations of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Rev. Paschal was instrumental in bringing Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and this year, Azim Khamisa, whose son was murdered in California, to Aurora. Both men are dedicated to bringing the message of nonviolent solutions to conflict to the world. The Season for Nonviolence schedule includes speaking to high school students in Aurora, discussion groups, and a time for the community to hear the powerful message from these world-renowned leaders. This will continue to serve the community as Rev. Paschal has already been in touch with the Superintendent of the Aurora Schools to involve more schools next year.
New Dawn’s longstanding Fiber Arts Ministry, which has sent prayer shawls and blankets infused with members’ love to third world countries, will be supplying them to the friends and families of the victims. The drop-in loss support group, facilitated by chaplains and practitioners, will continue to be available every week. The center also has congregants working as mentors with Aurora Youth Options, part of Aurora Mental Health, as a way of making a difference to the young people in the community.
Rev. Paschal and Rev. John Pons, New Dawn’s staff minister, are actively involved in Aurora’s Community Response Team. Rev. Paschal has been part of the Community of Faith group, and she participated by offering a prayer at the Friday evening prayer vigil following the tragedy. She has been invited by the Chief of Police to become a member of the Healing Team that is being formed by the city. The purpose of the team will be to create ongoing resources and spiritual support to the family, friends, and others affected by this tragedy.
New Dawn Center for Spiritual Living, under the leadership of Rev. Karen Paschal, will continue to teach the philosophy of Oneness and provide programs and opportunities that will make a difference in the world so that all can know the healing presence of love.
