May 2024 Daily Guides by Rev. Ryan Alexander

The Daily Guides have always been a beloved section of this publication. Each month, new spiritual guidance is imparted by members of the Centers for Spiritual Living communities. It’s lifelong insight you can’t find anywhere but Guide for Spiritual Living: Science of Mind magazine.

Each day brings two quotes from various wisdom teachers, a personal guide from the author’s life and a powerful affirmation. This daily inspiration has impacted generations of readers.

In case you don’t subscribe, here’s an example for you to enjoy:

The One Thing

Affirmation: I am open to exploring the depths of myself and others in ways that support authenticity and connection.

My wife and I often play a game we call “the one thing I don’t want you to know about me right now.” OK, I will be honest. It’s mostly her trying to play the game and me trying to change the subject. Isn’t that just what we do? Being vulnerable is no walk in the park, especially when we are conditioned to hide all the things that challenge and scare us.

Brené Brown defines vulnerability as “a state of emotional exposure that comes with a certain degree of uncertainty. It involves a person’s willingness to accept the emotional risk that comes from being open and willing to love and be loved.” Any attempt to explore the depths of ourselves and others, especially when we are unsure of the outcome, is a lesson in vulnerability, born from our desire to live the fullest expression of ourselves.

So what is the one thing I don’t want you to know about me right now? OK, I’ll play along, but just this once. The one thing that I don’t want you to know is I am often anxious and afraid, with a side of self-doubt thrown in for good measure. But you know what? That’s OK. Each day is a new opportunity to explore those parts of ourselves we have kept hidden out of fear.

Making peace with their existence is a part of the wholeness of life. The more we cultivate our willingness to be vulnerable and create spaces where others can do the same, the more we will experience the ultimate prize of vulnerability: true connection.

— Adrienne Posey

There is something within you beyond all doubt and fear, something that has never been limited by your acts or destroyed by your feeling. This is the only something that can make you whole.
— Ernest Holmes, “This Thing Called You”
